The evaluation of İdrîsî's work "Nüzhetü'l-Müştâk fi İhtirâki'al-Afâk" according to the western literature

In this study, one of the most important geographers of the Middle Ages, Abu Abdullah Muhammad b. Muhammed Şerif al-İdrîsî, a round map of the world on a silver platter and detailed information about his original work Nüzhetü'l-muştâķ fi'ĥtirâķı'l-Afâķ (A Taste of the World's Transcendent Horizons) are given in detail. The geographical understanding of this Muslim author, the works he has produced and how these works have an impact on the scientific understanding of Western and Islamic civilizations have been tried to be put forward. The studies in historical geography in Turkey, those made in the Western world is compared to a lot fewer and particularly when taken into consideration the lack of studies on Muslim geographer, is intended to contribute to the study of the historical geography studies in Turkey. In this context, firstly, references written in a foreign language were used and different ideas and perspectives related to the research subject were discussed. The opposing and similar views of Western scientists who make researches about İdrîsî and his works are included in the study and efforts are made to give depth to the subject. Thus, in the light of the information obtained from the mentioned sources, this study was aimed to eliminate the gap in the Turkish literature and to present a subject that needs to be researched to the scientific community. This study is shaped conceptually within the framework of science, history of science, geography, history of geography, map, cartography, history of cartography and personal system. As the theoretical framework of the study, İdrîsî, which is the focal point of the study, maps and his important work Nüzhetü'l-Müştâk' are considered. In this study, a mixed method was used and appropriate information was used. Firstly, literature review was done about the subject of the study and mainly foreign sources were discussed. Data collection and analysis method, case study, biography method, historical analysis method, document analysis are the methods used in the study.
