Abstract (EN)

Today, single-phase induction motors are widely used in industry and homes. Despite their low output power, the improvement in the efficiency of single-phase induction motors provides significant energy savings. Efficiency has become even more important in single-phase induction motors due to its wide area of use and regulations related to these motors have been brought to IEC standards. Currently, there is no energy efficiency requirement for single-phase induction motors. However, as of July 1, 2023, it has been obligatory to provide IE2 efficiency class for single-phase induction motors. In this study, 0.55 kW 4P single-phase induction motor design, analysis and performance tests are conducted in IE2 efficiency class. Siemens Simcenter SPEED software is used for the motor design. The designed single-phase induction motor is prototyped at Volt Elektrik Motors Company and tested in the R&D Electricity Laboratory. Test results; it is measured as 3.62Nm, 1450rpm, 707W input power, 550W output power and 77.8% efficiency. Motor efficiency, locked rotor and type tests are realized according to IEC 60034 standards. This thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter provides a literature review that encompasses the existing studies related to the subject. The second chapter presents general information about single-phase asynchronous motors. The third chapter focuses on the design process, including the utilization of the Siemens Speed program, relevant IEC standards, test methods, and systems. In the fourth chapter, the design stages of the single-phase asynchronous motor are elaborated in detail. The fifth chapter addresses the prototyping phase, while the final chapter presents the performance tests conducted and the analysis results obtained.
