Investigating the chemical components of oleaster's ( Elaeagnus angustifolia L.) wood and bark

Abstract (EN)
In this study, the chemical components of wood and bark of oleaster (Elaeagnus angustifolia L.), which is distributed different regions and climatic conditions in Turkey, were investigated. The research material samples have been taken from 3 different regions of Turkey under different climatic conditions and altitudes with the aim of determination for effects of climatic conditions and altitudes on wood components. First samples have been taken from Konya-Karapınar region (altitudes: 970 m), where has arid climate conditions. Çankırı Ilgaz region (altitudes: 730 m) is the third region of taken samples, and has semi-rainy climate conditions. Other samples have been taken from Balıkesir Edremit region (altitudes 30 m), where has rainy climate conditions. Results of the study, any major differences were not determinated in the main components of the heart wood and sap wood cell walls for the all oleaster samples. Highest holocellulose content has been found in the Çankırı region samples, and highest alpha cellulose and lignin content were found in the Balıkesir region samples. According to the analysis made of sugar, glucose and xylose ratios heartwood were higher than the sapwood. Investigating the rates of glucose and xylose sugar, the highest regional rates Çankırı district, while the lowest was Karapınar samples taken from the area. Comparing between chemical components for contents of the outer and inner bark samples, lignin contents of outer bark is higher than inner bark samples, on the contrary of the holocellulose and alpha cellulose contents. The hot and cold water soluble, alcohol soluble, %1 NaOH soluble highest values determinated in Çankırı region wood samples and lowest values determinated in Konya-Karapınar region wood samples. On the bark soluble values, the highest values were determinated in the Balıkesir region samples. Keywords: Oleaster, heart wood, sap wood, inner bark, outer bark
