Silver nanoparticle synthesis and antimicrobial applications of oleaster plant (Elaeagnus Angustifolia)

In this study, it is aimed to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using the green synthesis method using the oleaster (elaeagnus angustifolia L.) plant, to perform characterization analyzes of the synthesized AgNPs, and to determine the antibacterial activity of the synthesized AgNPs. According to the analysis results of Ultraviolet (UV)-visible Spectrophotometry, the nanocrystals exhibited a characteristic peak at 441 nm. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) revealed that the biosynthesized AgNPs possessed spherical morphologies. According to the XRD analysis results, the crystal structuresof AgNPs were determined to be cubic with a central face. The size of the nanoparticles was calculated to be 11.84 nm using the Debye-Scherrer equation. The inhibitory effects of AgNPs on food pathogens including Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213, Escherichia coli ATCC25922, and Candida albicans were determined using the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) method.
