General features of animal breeding cattle in Iğdır province

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to examine the structure and current status of the cattle breeding enterprises in Iğdır and to make recommendations for the development of cattle activity. In the study, questionnaires were collected with 162 farms owners in the form of questions and answers. The data are generally analyzed with 2(chi-square) and are given as percentage values. The average land assets, total land, land and dry land amount of the enterprises were determined as 86,47±5,67, 74,77±4,09 and 11,70±3,83 decares, respectively. The average cattle and sheep per head are 20,85±1,27 and 71,88±12,52 per head respectively. 84,0% of the breeders were traditional and 16,0% were modern. 82,1% of the breeders were registered to an animal husbandry organization. It was determined that 54,3% of milking was done by mobile milking machine, 38,3% by hand, 1,9% by milking unit and 5,6% by hand + mobile machine. It was determined that 80,8% of the enterprises had breast cleaning. It was determined that 99,0% of the enterprises were made of raw milk and 80,2% of them were made to collectors. It was found that 96,9% of the calves were ingested in 60 minutes and 50,0% of them did not have calf deaths, within 30 days in 9,3%, within 45 days in 14,8% and within 60 days for 25,9%. Calf deaths were found to cause diarrhea 17,9%, pneumonia 17,9%, diarrhea + pneumonia 64,2% and one 6,2%. It was determined that 100,0% of the operators determined fry and 71,3% of them had 5 hours, 21,2% 8 hours and 7,5% inseminated their animals after the determination of their resentment. After the birth, the duration of seeding of the cows was determined as 6,8% in the first resentment, 56,2% in 60 days, 34,6% in 90 days and 2,5% in 120 days. The number of seeding per pregnancy was determined as 1 times in 32,5%, 1-2% in 49,4% and 2+ in 18,1%. 27,2% of the breeders stated that they did not have a kitten-throwing event, 13,0% of them stated that they had a baby-throwing event before the 5th month of pregnancy and 59,9% of the pregnancies after the 5th month of pregnancy. Breeders stated that they had 21,6% Simental, 19,1% Brown-Swiss, 53,42% Simental + Brown-Swiss and 5,6% Holstein-Friesian breeds. While 75,3% of all breeders were positive about livestock imports, 24,7% did not want them, but 97,5% of the breeders were opposed to importation of meat. In conclusion, in this study, it was determined that the breeders in Igdir had sufficient knowledge and land presence in cattle breeding, care and feeding, and it was concluded that breeders should be encouraged to publish the cattle farms, increase the capacity of the existing ones and establish more modern enterprises.
