Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to determine the yield and quality characteristics of 10 cotton varieties at the researh area of Kazım Karabekir Agriculture Enterprise in Aralık, Iğdır; during 2016. Following agricultural observations were taken during study; days from sowing to emerging, the first squaring period, days to the first boll opening, plant height, the number of vegetative branches on the plant, the number of generative branches on the plant, the number of boll per plant, seed cotton yield, fiber yield, boll weight, seed cotton weight, ginning efficiency. Following qualty observations were taken during study: yam spinnability index, fiber finenees, maturity, fiber length, uniformity index, short fiber rate, strength, elasticity, brightness, the rate of yellowness, and trash grade. As a result of the study, the highest seed cotton yield was obtained from Flash variety as 349.17 kg/da and followed by Ba 119 with 314.93 kg/da. The lowest seed cotton yield was determined from Pg 2018 variety vith 198.89 kg/da. The highest fiber yield was also obtained from Flash variety (153.63 kg/da) and followed by Lodos variety (151.62 kg/da). The lowest fiber yield was determined from Ba 525 variety (85.3 kg/da). It can be seen from results that, Flash variety had highest fiber quality characteristics, with longest average fiber length (31.38 mm) the highest spinnability index value(164). Flash variety had also shown the highest value of fiber endurance (33.1 g/tex) and the highest value of uniformity index (86.13 %). Key words: Cotton, Cultivar, Yield, Quality
