Usage reasons of documentary credit in export an amprical study

Keywords: Documentary Credit, Payment Types The importance of foreign trade subject has been increasing by effects of rapidly developments in technology, communication and transportation areas as a result of liberation trends in goods and service trading that have been experienced in the World and foreign trade has become an important factor in meeting outsource requirements of the countries. Five payment types are generally being used in the process of realizing foreign trade. In this study, documentary credit which is a payment type, has ben scrutinized. The main aim of this study is to define the reasons of documentary credit to be preferred by the firms and to determine the problems related to the subject according to their priorities. In the first section of the study that consists of six main chapters, foreign trade concept and the development of foreign trade in the World and in Turkey, have been examined. In the second chapter, delivery and payment types in foreign trade have been studied, the kinds and stages of this process have been scrutinized. In the third chapter, documentary credit has been examined. In this connection, its defination has been made and its legitimate dimension has been brought up and this payment in question has been examined in terms of its activity methods. In the fourth chapter, foreign trade documents that are the most important factors in realizing documentary credit have been examined and explained where and how they are used. In the fifth chapter, documentary credit types has been examined. Every documentary credit type features, that has been examined under four different groups, have been explained according to their usage purposes. In the last chapter, a questionnaire has been made with firms that use documentary credit types. IX
