II.Gulf War and Iranian relations with Iraq

Without doubt the invasion of Iraq, will give the USA the opportunity to redesign the region according to its interests. Therefore the USA is trying to ensure strategic advantages out of the invasion of Iraq, by securing itself against potential dangers of the region by the means of making friends and allies out of its enemies in order to ensure the durability of its vital strategic benefits. This again requires the establishment of a new existence plan for Iraq, concentrating on the restructuring on different principles than the prior ones since its independence. America?s actual success in Iraq, by taking up the reins and creating a liberal-friendly Iraqi government, can be seen as one of the most important dynamics of the American project on this sensitive part of the world, particularly, when considering that Iraq was left at the mercy of America alone while forming a liberal Iraq to be presented to all Gulf states as a role model to be emulated and widening the radius to cover all states throughout the whole Middle East. Beside this, the invasion of Iraq by the USA opened the way to drawing a new regional power map of this region, because the separation of Iraq from the regional power balances, has led to an increase of Iraq?s influence on the region. Additionally, Turkey constitutes another variable in the region due to its contact to Iraqi boarders. As Turkey is a regional power not to be underestimated, it seems to have entered some kind of competition with Iran in that region which is globally accepted as critical. For this reason, America?s invasion of Iraq has revealed a new type of relationship in American-Iranian bilateral relations between the two countries, based on the focal point ?Iraq?. Furthermore, on the basis of the regional balance of power with regards to the impacts on Iraq, the variable Iran is opposed by the variable Turkey. Therefore, the invasion of Iraq has caused a major strategic change in the region with respect to its historical background, its geographical position and political and particularly its military weight effecting the regional balances of power within the Arab Gulf, as well as its economic position which it has in global economy due to its present and future oil resources.
