Abstract (EN)
Throughout the history people's need for veiling, sometimes the conditions of nature, sometimes formed around the world of beliefs. Some periods showed certain features in the formation and change of such habits. In this period, the emergence of hijab controversy has many interesting features. In this thesis, the headscarf problem and covering culture are examined. In the historical process, women's effort to participate in social life was reflected primarily in clothing and then in thought. Feminism and fashion changed the way of Ottoman women to life in the process. Especially, The radical change in women's clothing has initiated the debate. The Ottoman woman found a different way to express herself with the hijab. The Ottoman woman, together with the hijab, started the process of expressing herself in a different way. In this regard, the veil discussions have led to major women's movements. The woman discussed these issues through the press. In this thesis, The concepts of fashion and feminism in western origin, and the discussions in the western and conservative newspapers were examined. In this study, Istanbul newspapers were examined. This situation shows many social problems. The studies are seeking the answers to these problems. there is no academic study on this title. The hijab discussions have been one of the most profound signs of east-west conflict. This debate still remains fresh as a reflection of the subconscious of Ottoman society.
