Abstract (EN)
This dissertation aims to elaborate Great Britain?s policy approaches to Iraq within the context of its Middle East policy in the interwar period. It attempts to analyze domestic and foreign necessities and considerations which formed the basis for that policy with various political, diplomatic, military and strategic dimensions in the light of the efforts to consolidate its influence and interests over Iraq in particular and the Middle East in general. This study shows how Great Britain tried to maintain the status quo in Iraq against the foreign challenges and rebellions as an outcome of rising nationalism. It attempts to examine the dilemmas that taxed Great Britain in the formation of its Iraq policy by taking into consideration the secret agreements in the face of the commitments made to the Arabs. It sheds light on the reconciliation of these commitments between its foreign policy aims and external influences in the formulation of Iraq policy.
