Abstract (EN)

In this study, it is intended to analyse syntactic errors made by Turkish students while learning English as a foreign language and to suggest solutions to minimize these errors. Foreign language learning is certainly among the most frequently investigated research topics. The process of mother tongue acquisition and foreign language learning has been analysed and it has been intended to help students to get the most efficient results in this process from past to present. Errors that are the concrete signs of abstract process of foreign language learning have been important clues for the researchers. In this thesis, the students of IMKB Anatolian High School have been given three texts that consist of linguistic patterns they learned before and have been wanted to translate these texts from Turkish to English. During the translation process, they have been let use dictionary and required not to be anxious about grades. The translations of the students have been analysed and detected in terms of syntactic errors based on the findings of Error Analysis and Contrastive Analysis. Errors except for the syntactic errors have not been considered in the thesis. The reasons of the errors have been determined and solutions for these errors have been suggested.Key words: Syntax, Linguistics, Error Analysis, Contrastive Analysis, Interlanguage, Language Acquisition, Language Learning, Mother Tongue and Second Language.
