Evaluation of Turkish foreign policy in the framework of realism in the Second World War

The Second World War affected the foreign policy of all countries. Turkey, which managed not to participate in the war, achieved this with the realism it followed in its foreign policy. In this period, İsmet İnönü managed the foreign policy from a single source by gathering all the authorities by himself. During the war, Turkish foreign policy was built on balancing the parties. With the end of the war clear, Turkey declared war on the Axis Powers to be on the winning side. With the end of the war, realism dominated the balance policy. As a result, Turkey abandoned its balance policy and took its place in the Western Block in the new bipolar world. In the thesis titled "The Evaluation of Turkish Foreign Policy in the Framework of Realism in the Second World War", the decisions in Turkey's foreign policy during the war were tried to be explained with a realistic perspective. Studies of different departments, which had been done on similar subjects before, were examined as a method. After the literature review, the reading part started. Since the area covered by the study is very wide, it is mainly limited to the years of the Second World War. In this context, in the first part of the study, the concepts of international relations related to the concepts of foreign policy and realism will be explained. Then, domestic developments affecting Turkey's foreign policy, the Turkish economy, and public opinion during the war years will be examined. Finally, in the fourth and subsequent parts, foreign developments affecting Turkish foreign policy during the Second World War, Turkey's realistic attitude in international negotiations, and the real reasons for Turkey's rapprochement with the West at the end of the war will be evaluated.
