Abstract (EN)

With the change in spatial and social structure, urbanization, which shows the increase in density in urban areas, is progressing day by day. The continuously increasing spread of urban areas brings with it the deterioration of the ecological balance and thus environmental problems. The deteriorated balance causes changes that directly affect people and the environment, such as climate change. In order to minimize the emerging problems and take precautions against future problems, it is necessary to identify the problems correctly and offer solutions. This study aims to propose solutions in terms of spatial planning and design for urban landscape in the pilot area (Bağlarbaşı Neighborhood, Safranbolu) in the focus of the climate change problem encountered. In the first step, a literature review was conducted and studies on conceptual framework were carried out. In the second step, data on climate parameters were obtained. In addition, climate research was carried out in the memory of the users of the city with a questionnaire study conducted with qualitative method. The findings obtained in the third stage were presented in graphs, maps and verbally. In this context, it was determined that the pilot area, which shows temperate climate characteristics in general, is not a region with serious urbanization problems, but it is an area where urban development is observed, and the urban texture is gradually increasing. In this regard, it has been determined that planning and design should be done by taking into account the solution suggestions for the problems that may be encountered in the future. Finally, climate-oriented design recommendations are presented in terms of (1) building, (2) green space, (3) stagnant water surface, (4) surface flow, (5) urban corridors (streets and avenues), (6) urban equipments and (7) surface materials. This thesis is a guide not only for Safranbolu (Karabük) but also for all cities with similar temperate climates. In addition, this study, which was carried out in an integrated manner through quantitative and qualitative data, contributed to universal knowledge.
