Governmentality as an instrument of reproduction of the field of power: The case of Justice and Development Party

This study examines the role of governmentality plays in the reproduction of the field of power. In this context, it is mentioned that the governmental techniques that concern the population and all other social processes can be read on government practices, information-power relation and power discourses. Such a reading suggest that reproduction of power can not be achived only by oppression, and that the partnership between the subject and power can be added to the equilibrium. With the institutionalization of Christianity as a Church, the management of individuals has become one of the main topics of power practices. This pastoral power technique, named after the pastry of the Christian Church, enters a period of crisis in XV. and XVI. centuries. The power regime, which is defined as the state in the modern era, aims to govern these governmental crises experienced by the Christian Church on the axis of the state. This study which names the relationship between the Christian Church and the governmental regimes of the modern state as pastoral power and governmentality analyzes how the ruling Justice and Development Party since November 3, 2002, products their own power by the pastoral and governmental discourses of the leading politicians of the Justice and Development Party. Thus, it is emphasized that the subjects, together with the rulers, contribute to the reproduction of power.
