Examination of burnout levels of faculty of theology teaching members in terms of various variables

This study aims to examine the burnout levels of faculty members working in theology faculties in terms of various demographic and professional variables. Burnout is defined as a psychological syndrome that emerges due to intense stress, emotional exhaustion, and loss of motivation in professional life. Evaluating the burnout levels of faculty members is critical for sustaining both individual well-being and educational quality. The research was conducted using the relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods. The study population consists of faculty members from the theology faculties of İnönü, Fırat, and Kilis 7 Aralık Universities. The sample comprises 104 participants determined through the convenience sampling method. Data were collected via a personal information form and the Maslach Burnout Inventory, and analyzed using SPSS software. Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) techniques were employed. According to the findings, faculty members exhibited moderate levels of burnout. Variables such as gender, age, academic title, years of service, weekly course load, and administrative duties were found to significantly affect some sub-dimensions of burnout. Female faculty members experienced higher emotional exhaustion compared to males, and personal accomplishment tended to decline with increased age and seniority. Moreover, those with administrative responsibilities showed higher levels of burnout. These findings suggest that burnout levels are shaped not only by individual but also by institutional and structural dynamics. The results of the study provide important insights into developing support mechanisms for faculty members, enhancing job satisfaction, and strengthening work-life balance policies.
