Abstract (EN)
Objective: As individuals age, their lives tend to become increasingly complex. In this context, understanding how older adults maintain their psychosocial well-being or how they experience well-being becomes particularly important. This study aims to explore how older adults experience the concept of well-being and to identify the factors that support well-being within the framework of PERMA model. In line with the findings of the research, it is intended to uncover knowledge that can support the well-being of individuals across all age groups and contribute to a smoother life experience during old age. Method: The research was conducted using one of the qualitative research methods, specifically within an interpretative phenomenological design. The study aimed to understand individuals' experiences, perspectives, and thoughts related to well-being within the framework of PERMA model. Interviews were conducted with 13 participants who had exceeded the average life expectancy and agreed to take part in the study. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: The main theme of the study concerning the well-being of older adults is defined as "Well-Being in Older Age." This overarching theme is composed of five sub themes: "social participation and meaningful life," "'family and intergenerational bonds," "search for meaning and inner journey," "desire for independent aging and spatial arrangement," and "labor in old age and the cessation of labor". Conclusion: In maintaining the well-being of older adults, several factors have been identified as significant: aging by making time meaningful through hobbies and activities; establishing social relationships and community ties; receiving emotional support from family, particularly grandchildren; attaining spiritual fulfillment through an inner search for meaning; living independently in suitable environments; and reflecting on their professional identities and social roles. Key words: older age, well-being, PERMA model
