Abstract (EN)
Turkish woman, who makes up the society by participating in all fields of life, has gained a lot of rights in the political arena from the past to the present. Turkish woman both elected and was elected as a member of the parliament in 1935. The political representation of women has undergone a number of stages up to their present state. The foundation of the achievementsof the Republic was laid in the last period of the Ottoman Empire. Turkish woman first became a mayor and then a headman, finally finding a place for herself in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey at the elections of 1935; the number of women deputies was 17. Satı Kadın, who was representative of the peasant woman and became the deputy of place where she lived then, was appointed to the legislative Office as the deputy of Ankara. Married to a veteran of Turkish Independence War with 6 children, Satı Kadın was the daughter of a headman. She first served as the headman of Kazan Village and later became a deputy. She served in commissions and worked in legislative activities together with the other women deputies who entered the parliment. Satı Kadın, who learned to read and write later, was included in the parliamentary minutes under the name of Hatı Çırpan. It was Atatürk himself who changed her name. Hatı Çırpan, who represented the peasant nation she came from during her parliamentary term, served in the agriculture commision in the parliament. Hatı Çırpan, who served as a deputy just for one term, returned to her village when her duty was over. The events she experienced in her political life provide information about Turkey under Atatürk. The first female deputies under the roof of the Turkish Grand National Assembly had a say in the country's administration with the political representation they obtained under the leadership of Atatürk.
