Reflections of printing techniques on Turkish graphics design education from the first printing house to present day

In this research, it is aimed to examine the developmental process of the printing techniques from the first Turkish printing office founded in 1729 until today and to assess the reflections of those printing techniques on education of graphical design in Turkey.The historical development process of printing techniques in the world and in Turkey and the part in which the printing techniques used in printing were explained in detail compose the literature review of the study. The printing techniques used in printing are examined under five headings; such as high, flat, hollow, digital and lenticular printing.The target sample of the study is the graphic-design education providing faculties and the departments of the universities in Ankara in 2006-2007 Academic Years, and the sample is 5 faculties and 2 departments providing education in this field and 223 students who are studying in those schools. This research is a descriptive study in the scanning model. The data printing tool is composed of two parts. The personal information about the students taking part in the study is given on a table as frequency and percentage. In order to control whether the grades the students have obtained on the achievement test which has been applied to them are different from the schools they attend, t-test and one-way variance analysis have been carried out.In addition, there have been face-face interviews with 30 faculty members in order to get their opinions about whether the courses on printing and printing techniques are sufficient or not.As a result of the study,1. It has been reported that the men taking part in the study have been more successful than the women. When the grades of the achievement test are studied, it has been revealed that the students are not so successful on printing and printing techniques.2. According to the views of the faculty members taking part in the study the students studying graphic design has ?partly sufficient? capacities on printing technologies.3. It has been revealed that the majority of faculty members think that the courses offered on graphic design education are ?partly sufficient.? They have expressed that the syllabuses of those schools must include such courses as ?Printing? and ?Printing Technologies.?4. It has been seen that the courses related to printing and printing technologies in the syllabuses of the faculties and departments which provide graphic education for the purpose of educating students in various fields are not sufficient enough to respond to the needs of the sector.
