Rewiewing the choices of 2nd level primary school students on different kinds of music, in terms of different variances: The case of Kars

The main goal of this study is to examine the preferences of the primary school second grade students about different kinds of music, according to the type of school, gender, grade level, income level, residential area, level of interaction with the mass-communication devices and social environment, and variables of interest in music actively. In line with this purpose, a ?Music Preferences Questionnaire? has been prepared through expert opinions, to be applied to 755 students, studying at 6th, 7th and 8th grades in 4 different primary schools (3 state, 1 private) in Kars (affiliated to Ministry of National Education), which provide general music education and had been chosen with ?random method?. By means of the results obtained from this questionnaire, the preferences of students who study primary school 2nd grade in Kars, about different kinds of music was tried to be determined according to the type of school, gender, grade level, income level, residential area, level of interaction with the mass-communication devices and social environment, and variables of interest in music actively. Questionnaires which had been applied to the participants were transferred to the computer by means of encoding and the data were analyzed through SPSS 18 program. For the interpretation of the outcomes of the research; frequency, percentage, Man Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were used. At the end of the research it is found out that the students prefer different kinds of music according to the aforementioned variables, and different proposals have been listed in line with the obtained results.
