Economic and demografic factors that affect the 3rd grade primary school students`reading comprehension skill in Turkish class

These variables are: students? gender,to have a own house, economical situation of their environment, number of siblings,parents? education level, parents? job, to work after school, to have a private roomat home, to have newspaper or magazine regularly, to have the habit of readingbooks in their spare time, and to have a pre-school education. The effects of thesevariables on the 3rd grade primary school students? reading comprehension skillswas analysed.The sample of the study was 496 3rd grade primary school students inSehitkamil and Sahinbey in Gaziantep.The data analysed was gathered by using personal information form andreading comprehension test.On the basis of the data obtained, there is no significant correlation betweenthe 3rd grade primary school students? reading comprehension skills and students?gender, to have a own house, economical situation of their environment and numberof siblings.ivMoreover there is significant correlation between the 3rd grade primaryschool students? reading comprehension skills and parents? education level, parents?job, to work after school, to have a private room at home, to have newspaper ormagazine regularly, to have the habit of reading books in their spare time, and tohave a pre-school education.Key words: Reading Comprehension Skill, Primary School 3rd Level Students,Audiovisual, Larynx.
