The Aim of the Study: The Influence of Tongue Twister Use in the Primary School 3rd Graders? Turkish Language Courses on Their Speaking SkillsThe overall aim of the present study is to investigate the influence of the activities including tongue twisters on the speaking skills of the primary school 3rd graders.The study group is composed of 71 randomly chosen 3rd graders, 36 of whom belong to the control group and 35 to the experimental group, studying at Kütahya Atakent Primary School in 2008?2009 academic year.In the present study, in which pre-test post-test control group model was used, first, students were asked to determine the topics they would have liked to talk about. Having asked the students to write the topics they wanted to talk about, the frequencies of the topics determined for each group were calculated. Control and experimental group students were asked to prepare a speech choosing one of the three topics determined in the mentioned way. The recordings of the students? speeches were examined and evaluated using the ?Speaking Evaluation Form?. After the evaluation, Bearing the instructional objectives of Turkish Language course the activities including tongue twisters were applied to the experimental group throughout eight weeks in 24 sessions while traditional teaching methods were used in the in the control group.Subsequently, students were asked to deliver speeches having prepared before and those were evaluated again using the ?Speaking Evaluation Form?. İn addition, written documents that the experimental group students expressed their ideas after each activity were used. As a result of the evaluations done, whether there was a significant difference between the groups in which activities with and without tongue twisters were used was examined. Data obtained from the Speaking Evaluation Form were evaluated using the SPSS package program.Data obtained form Speaking Evaluation Form through SPSS package program and through the written documents that the experimental group students explained their opinions after each activity were evalvated and interpreted.İn the study, it was found out that the activities including torgue twisters had a positive influence on the development of the speaking skills of the students in the experimental group.Key words: Tongue twister, speaking education, speaking skill
