The investigation of stories prepared for children at 4th-5th grades of primary schools by means of readability and values

In this thesis, children literature studies for the age of 4th and 5th grade students have been investigated by means of readability, book design, and occurrence of values. The study have been written in three headings which were that; children book should be attracted children by book design, it should be read and understood according to readability rules and it should be attracted the reader by transfer of values. The sample of the investigation includes 50 books some of them were chosen among the Children Literature Books prepared for 9-12 age group, others among the Children?s Read Most Section at Adnan Ötüken Public Library, and the others are chosen randomly. By this investigation, it was aimed that Children?s Books which were examined by visual design, readability and transfer values for the student who are at 4th and 5th grade to contribute them in terms of character education and personality development. In addition, it was important that children?s books how much performed their duty, and also it was important for us to give our loosen values to our students and bring up trustworthy people. The study was an investigation based on a qualitative data. Document view and content analyze techniques were used to achieve the research data. As the result of the investigation;1)50 Children?s Literature Books which have been prepared for 4th and 5th grades were adequate for visual book design features.2) 50 Children?s Literature Books prepared for 4th and 5th grades were adequate for content features of readability.3) It could not be said that Children?s Literature Books prepared for 4th and 5th grades were sufficient for the operation of frequency of basic values. Because 30 of 50 books were below 49% for value reoccurrence of frequency.Key words: Children's Literature, Book Design, Readability, Values, Character Education.
