In elementary school, the belongingness of fourth and fifth grade students to school and the relationship between socio-demographic differences and undesired behaviours

ABSTRACT IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, THE BELONGINGNESS OF FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS TO SCHOOL AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIO- DEMOGRAPHIC DIFFERENCES AND UNDESIRED BEHAVIOURS BetfilOCAK Master Thesis, Primary Education Department Supervisor: Assistant Prof. Dr. Songül Tfimkaya June, 2004, 96 pages This research aims to find out the relationship between the undesired behaviours and the feelings of belonging to school of fourth and fifth grade students in elementary school, at the same time their socio-demographic features (their socio-economic status, gender educational background, birth order, brother number, educational situation of their family). The population of the research is the fourth and fifth grade students who have attended the school in the second educational term of 2003-2004 in the city centre of Osmaniye. The sample is eight elementary schools having different socio-economic level in Osmaniye. The collected data were analyzed statistically with SPSS package programme. For mis, variance analysis, t-test and scheffe- F test were used. In this research, it is found out that the students whose needs of belongingness in school haven't been satisfied shows undesired behaviours. At the same time, the research showed that students who have low socio-economic levels, never attended infant school and whose family is uneducated and also male students perform perform undesired behaviours at high level. But it is found that the birth order and the number of having sibling are ineffective in showing undesired behaviours.
