Abstract (EN)

In this study it is aimed to evaluate the fifth grade mathematics textbooks and auxiliary materials (student workbooks and teacher?s guide books) which, are used at primary schools in Adana during the educational year 2007-2008. The textbooks are investigated with the features of physical appearance; content; language and the expression; and evaluations.Research has been performed in Survey Model. The teacher and the student questionnaire forms which were developed by the researcher were used as data gathering instrument. The questionnaires were applied to 135 teachers and 560 students at 31 primary schools in Seyhan and Yüreğir districts of Adana.Under the direction of the aims of the resarch, those were set that are dissociations of frequency, percentage and mean regarding the opinions of those participants in the application about the book which is the subject of the research.The findings of the study have been demonstrated that the teachers and students agree with the features of the textbook such as, physical appearence but they are indecisive about the features of the textbook such as; content, language and expression, and evaluations.In the lights of the research they are concluded that teachers and students find the mathematics textbook insufficient; they want their textbook having quality printing and binding, more colorful and enjoyable. In addition they want to have such a mathematics textbook that having extensive lecturing, lots of examples and practices which enable them to make individual studying.Keywords: Mathematics, textbooks, curriculum, primary education
