Researching the students? who are at the fifth grade in a primary school learned helplessness degree and classroom atmosphere in social-demographic vriables

This research aimed to find about if there is a difference between the students?learned helplessness level and what they comprehend in the classroom atmosphere according to their sexes,academical success,the level of education of their prents, the social and economical situation of the school and the number of the studnets at the clssroom.The target population of this study is the students whose at fifth grade in primary school and are at the fifth grade in Adana province,Çukurova,Sarıçam,Seyhan and Yüreğir district in the academic year of 2009-2010.This research was carried out with 550 students who were incidentally chosen and also carried out by the stratified piling and sampling method.In this research ?The scale for Learned helplessness for children? by Aydın (1985) which is also adapted and standardizated into Turkish, is used as data collection tool and also ?the classroom atmosphere scale? which is improved by Şendur (1999) to determine the primary students? comprehention related with the classroom. Also, ?a personal information form? including questionaries including the sexes,academic success,the number of the students in the class,the level of the mothers and fathers education is prepared and applied by the researcher in this research.According to the data one way analysis of variance,t-test are used.,Kruksal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U-tests are used in the condition that the range was not normal. In the one way analysis of variance, LSD test is used to determine to find out from which group the difference is caused. Pearson Moments multiplying correlation is used to determine if there is a relation between the level of learned helplessness level and the comprehended classroom atmosphere.In all analysis, 0.5 was accepted as the criteria of relevance.It is retained that there is a significant relation between the students? learned helplessness level and classroom atmosphere.According to the results this research,there is a significant relation between the level of learned helplessness and all the social demographic variables which is used in the personal information forms.Keywords: Learned helplessness, comprehended class atmosphere,primary education.
