The effect of creative drama on the achievement of the students of elementary school 5th grade Turkish course

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to observe the exposure of the creative drama on the Elementary school 5th grade Turkish course. An experimental study has been used to observe the exposure of the creative drama method compared to traditional methods in Turkish course.The study was carried out at Anadolu Kalkınma Vakfı Primary School, in province of Düzce, Kaynaşlı district, on the second term of 2008 ? 2009 academic year. The sample of the study is 40 students of Anadolu Kalkınma Vakfı Primary School who receive drama education at the 5th grade. 20 students from 5/A generate the experimental group while 20 students from 5/B generate the control group. The courses are taken through creative drama activities for the experimantal group and activities that take place in Elementary school 5th grade Turkish course for the control group. ?Turkish Achievement Test? was performed by the researcher in order to collect data for the study.In the study, the analysis of the data, gained from data collecting implements, are developed from SPSS16 package software. In the first and second sub problem of the study, Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was used in order to test the suggestiveness of the difference between the fore test and after test points of a certain group. In the third, fourth, fifth and sixth problem of the study, Mann-Whitney U Test analysis was used as a nonparametric statistical technique since the participants were divided into subgroups and the number of the participants was low in each group. At the end of the study, the followings consequences were found:It was concluded that there is a significant difference between the pre test and post test main scores of the students in the experimental group in which creative drama method is used. It also was concluded that there is a significant difference between the pre test and post test main scores of the students in the control group in which traditional method is used.No significant mean score difference was found between the expermental and control group students with respect to their of pre and post test mean scores.When the the pre test and post test academical achievement of the students in the experimental group are examined according to their gender, they do not no significant difference was found in the experimental group. No significant gender difference was found in the academic achievement levels of the control group when their pre and post test results are considered, either. However; a significant difference was found in favour of female students when their post test mean scores are considered. It was concluded that the female students were more successful than the male students in terms of their post test mean scores.Keywords: Turkish Language Teaching, Creative Drama, Traditional Method
