The evaluation of literary text in turkish course books at sixth grades of elemantary education with respect to criterion of childeren literature

Course Books are the tools that are used widely at the schools. Inspite of the development of the technology, they still preserve their importance. At the Turkish classes the activities for native language are put into practice by means of the texts in the course books. In order to have decent education for native language both the chose of the texts and the presentations of the course books in which the texts are significant. The qualified Turkish course book must be appropriate for the criterion of the child literature and goals of curriculum for teaching Turkish.In my study the texts in Turkish course book for the sixth grades are examined and they are evaluated whether they are suitable for the criterion of child literature or not. In the entrance section the importance, goal, method, whole and example group, extent and limitation of the study are explained. In the first section, conceptual frame is dwelled on. In the second section, 24 texts, in the book chosen for an example of the study, are examined according to child literature criterion. The texts are examined according to the order in the book. The distribution of the texts according to the literary is stated.The topic, theme and central theme of the texts in the book are evaluated if they are appropriate for the curriculum of teaching Turkish, comprehension level of the sixth grade students and they are assessed for their contribution to the students? personality development. The texts? features for language and expression are evaluated. The words and the sentences that are used in the texts are examined whether they?re appropriate for the children?s age and general knowledge and their contibution to the students? word knowledge and the facts which take the attention of the child readers are stated. The features of the heroes chosen in the texts are examined and plans of the texts are evaluated. The texts examined according to content are also studied for their shapes according to criterion of child literature.In the last section the consequences which are obtained after the examination are explained.
