The evaluation of the lesson books of the sixth class of elemantary education from the viewpoint of vocabulary

Turkish lesson books are in the position of being the most important materials of Turkish education. These books are expected to reflect Turkish vocabulary successfully and contribute to development and enrichment of students? vocabulary. However, efficiency of the books is an issue discussed rather frequently.This study has been prepared to determine vocabulary in lesson book of the sixth class (submitted to the students) published by Ozgun Yayınlari perpared according to Turkish education program of 2004 and to examine conformity of the lesson book to Turkish Education Program.In this study, texts in the lesson book were examined in terms of vocabulary. The evaluations were made upon the concepts. All of the texts were evaluated separately and then the concepts in the book were listed collectively. Which literal meanings the words and phrases have, proper nouns, idioms, metaphors, terms, total concept number, repeated concept number, number of concept used in diverse and their rates were shown in tables.The lesson book was evaluated according to the data obtained. At the end of this study, it was discussed whether the lesson book is sufficient to increase vocabulary of students or not.Key Words: Word, Concept, Vocabulary, Vocabulary Development, Turkish Course Book.
