Raising historical environment awereness among the primary education 7th grade students through art-work courses (a practice at Şükûfe Nihal Primary School)

IV ABSTRACT Every comer of Turkey full of rich historical places which illuminate the history. The people living in this country that owns such a richhiztorical inheritence, should be awerw of the valves they have. Turkey possesses a very showy historycal environment, but this affluence is getting annihilated day by day. Because of this reason, conservation of this wealt is getting more and more essential, even it is said to be urgent today! So, first of all, as we don'trecognise the valves we own, there is a requirement of a study in the scope of Art- Work education lesson. Primary schools daily lesson programes, Art-Work programme (National Education Ministry; 2000) the general target of 6th, 7th, 8th classes, 17th item: (Historycal ceremony places, monuments, museums, art galeries, desing studios are supposed to be idendified, culturel and naurel wealth are also expected to be claimed) and, from the spesific aims of 7th classes, 26th item: (Historical work of art, monuments, museums, galeries, artist and desingner working-places are expected to be recognised and saved) for supplying this goal, an application that rouses the consciousness of historical environment is realized. The application is formed in Ankara city, Yenimahalle district-şükufe Nihal primary school. The students of the school are selected haphazardly. These 21 students formed the group of sample. The application is mede with the method calledun controlled pre and last test technique. These tests are practised by the helps of experts views.During the experiment, lesson presentation, slideshows, trip-observation- investigation and application activities are practised. Lesson plan is prepared by a new method named: Disipline Based Art Education. At the art -work lesson, the aim was; to wake the students' consciousness of historical environment; and the role of the method is wanted to be brought forward. în the range of application; firstly, anpre-test is applied to the students. The test aimed to check the knowledge of students about the historical environment. Then, students are informed about the historicalenvironment, and their city's hiztorical places are shown aslide show. For trip-observation wor one of the historical residences of Ankara: Hacı Bayram Mosque is visited.therei the pen-work decorations, and iner mosque working sheets are answered. Motif-drawings are examined. After the trip, at school, students are informed about the application; their opinions are taken into consideration. The pen-work ornaments of iner mosque and the motifs drawn by the students are the basic of the aplications. The students drew the preliminary sketches that they mostly like. Then, they used these for a new imagination with different techniques and materials as they wish. Application is completed at the end of the three lessons. Comleting the application makes us think that, it had a role of introducing the historical environment and the importance of realizing the idea of saving historical valves.
