The relationship between the academic achievement and the use of dominant brain lobe among the 7th grade primary school students

The aim of this research is to investigate the dominant cerebral lobe that 7th grade students used and the relation between their academic achievement. Correlational survey model was used in the study. The study was conducted on 7th grade students studied in the province of Malatya in 2014-2015. The sample of the study consists of 352 7th grade students selected by random sampling method. ''The brain dominance tool'' developed by Erduran Avcı(2007) was used as a data collection tool within the scope of her knowledge and approval. Also Students' final achievement scores in Turkish, Maths, Science and Social Studies courses were used as another data source. SPSS 17.0 software was used for the analysis of the data obtained. Coefficient of skewness was used for the analysis of normality of data. One-way analysis of variance(One-Way Anova) was used for the relationship between brain dominance and academic achievement. As a result of the research, there was no significant relationship between academic achievement and brain dominance in Science course. Similarly, no significant relationship was found between academic achievement and brain dominance in Turkish,Maths, and social studies courses.
