The applications of the multiple intelligence theory on the subject of acid and base in primary school 8th grade

vu ABSTRACT The Applications of The Multiple Intelligence Theory on The Subject of Acid and Base in Primary School 8th Grade i Meltem ÖZAÇIK ERDEM In this research, it is aimed to find out whether there is a difference between the group which Multiple Intelligence Theory is applied to and the other group which the traditional method is applied to about their level of achievement on the subject of "Acids and Bases" of the unit of the "Energy and Change in the Matter" in the science lesson. This research has been applied on the eight grade students of Kazım Karabekir Primary School in Konak-İzmir in 2002-2003 academic year. Total number of students in both groups, the experiment group and control group, is 62. The groups include the students who are taught by the same teacher in the same school considering the effects that can be caused by the teachers and by social and financial differences of the students. In the study experimental design was used. First, the research focused on the variety of intellectual realm in the classes by applying "Multiple Intelligence Realm Inventory" of 135 questions and than "Multiple Intelligence Realm Profile" for each student was arrange. In the study lesson plans were prepared based on traditional and Multiple Intelligence Theory. The lesson plans which are based on Multiple Intelligence Theory, are prepared in such a way that can contain each intelligence realm. In lesson plans, students' gains were also taken into consideration. Each group was tested with a preliminary and final set of 29 questions whose validity and reliability was calculated. For the data analysis were done using t test, p values, arithmetic mean and standard deviations were calculated by using SPSS 8.0 package programme.vın The results showed that in learning the subject of "Acids and Bases" in the unit of the "Energy and Change in the Matter", the group in which Multiple Intelligence Theory was applied learnt more effectively and meaningfully than the group in which traditional method was used.
