The effect of our national holidays in contributing to gain national values in primary school artistic activities lesson

In the research, it has been proposed that National Holiday?s, which intrinsically narrate our cultural and national values pertinent to our own society, must be covered as a topic within Turkish National Education system alternatively in 8th grades in view of the fact that cultural values of the nations long-standing past acquirements. It has been suggested that the fact that National Holidays included in Fine Arts Teaching Program might contribute to the training of individuals who are aware of their cultural identity, protecting their past and who feel vibrations for their historical and mythological structure in the past, and who pleasure our emotional society with the joy of listening and understanding, and who have the awareness that they are a part of today as well as of the past cultures.The research environment is made up of the city of Ankara, 100. Yıl Primary School in the city center and the research sampling is composed of 54 students altogether in the sections C(experiment) and A(control) which have been randomly chosen from among the 8th grade sections of the school in 2010-2011 fall season of teaching and education.Within the scope of this research which is related with ?The Effect Off Our National Holidays In Contributing To Gain National Values In Primary School Artistic Activities Lesson?, in order to find answers to the problems of the research a success test and an attitude scale have been used to apply on the experiment and the control group. The data gathered through the success test and the attitude scale are displayed as a descriptive chart and the results of the students attained through the success test and the attitude scale before and after the application, have been put forward as frequencies and percentages. Whether or not there is a difference between the students of the experiment and the control group in attitude and success has been checked out through variance analysis and dependent and independent groups have been checked out through T test. The meaningfulness percentage in the study has been accepted as 0.5Conclusively;1)No statistically meaningful difference has been established between the results of pre-test success status and prejudices of the students in experiment and control groups.2)A statistically meaningful difference has been found between the success scores of the experiment and the control group students in the final test carried out after the application. This difference is for the benefit of the students. Additionally, it has been found out in the final attitude scores that the attitudes of the students in the experiment group are relatively more positive compared with the control group.3)There is a meaningful difference between the success scores of the control group students before and after the application. There is no, however, a significant difference between the attitudes of the students before and after the application.4)After the application phase, the success rates of the students in the experiment group have increased significantly. There is no meaningful difference between the attitudes of the students before and after the application.5)After the application, a significant difference has been found out between the experiment group students and the control group students in pre-test and final test success scores. However, there is no significant difference between the first attitude and the final attitude scores.In the final part of the research, how National Holiday?s should be included in Art Teaching Programs of Primary Schools with an eye to the problems arising and some recommendations for the further development of the subject under discussion are given.
