This research was conducted to examine the relationship between the fifth graders? academic self-esteem levels related to the Turkish, Mathematics, Science and Social Scince courses and their achievement in the Turkish, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science courses.This is a survey?type study conducted in the line with the aims, within limitations outlined in the text, and mainly aims to describe the current situation. To collect data from the sample in this study, The Self-esteem Inventory was used by the researcher, which was developed by Coopersmith and translated into Turkish by Pişkin (2003).The data wereanalyzed through the statistics program SPSS 11.0 and the statistical techniques arithmetic mean, standart deviation, t-test (for the variable gender and disrict), mean, standart deviation, analysis of variance (for the variables type of school, parents? education, family?s income, changing school, changing teacher, students? perceptions about taecher?s affection for themselves and grade point avarages) were used to analyze the data. To find out the source of difference among groups, Scheffe test was used. Bivariate analysis was used to determine the relationship between academic self-esteem and grade point avarages in Turkish, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science courses.The research has discerned that academic self-esteem levels and grade point avarages of the groups vary significantly in terms of gender, in favour of males. The relationship between academic self-esteem and grade point avarages was found Females higher than males.Academic self-esteem levels and grade point avarages of the groups vary significantly in terms of district, in favour of Torbalı. The relationship between academic self-esteem and grade point avarages was found for the students in Torbalı higher than the students in Bayındır. The academic self-esteem and grade point avarages of the students in half-day attendance school are significantly higher than those of others.The academic self-esteem and grade point avarages of the students in half-day school are significantly higher than those of others are.The relationship between academic self-esteem and grade point avarages was found for the students in half-day attendance school, higher than those of others.The academic self-esteem and grade point avarages of the students whose mother?s have graduated degrees are significantly higher than those of others are. The relationship between academic self-esteem and grade point avarages was found for the students whose mother?s have graduated university, higher than those of others. The relationship between academic self-esteem and grade point avarages was found for the students whose father?s have graduated primary school, higher than those of others have.The academic self-esteem and grade point avarages of the students whose parents have high family income are significantly higher than those of others. The relationship between academic self-esteem and grade point avarages was found for the students whose parents have 2000 YTL and upper income, higher than those of others.It was found that, academic self-esteem levels of the groups do not vary significantly in terms of changing school, but grade point avarages of the students who has never or one time changed their school vary significantly higher than those of others.In the situation that, when the number of changing teacher was increased, the students? academic self-esteem levels and grade point averages were decreased. The relationship between academic self-esteem and grade point avarages was found for the students, who have changed teacher one time, higher than those of others.In the situation that, when the students? perceptions about their teacher?s affection for themselves were increased, the students? academic self-esteem levels and grade point averages were increased also. The relationship between academic self-esteem and grade point avarages was found for the students, who have positive perceptions about their teacher?s affection, higher than those of others.Lastly, the students? academic self-esteem who have higher grade point averages are significantly higher than those of others in Turkish, Mathematics, Science and Social Scince courses.
