The mistakes done by the first year primary school students in cursive writing

Dr. Erol GÜNGÖRDÜAugust-2006In the research, it has been tried to discover which type of mistakes do thefirst year primary school students make in cursive writing.The work group of the research is formed of 70 first class primary schoolstudents selected from 3 primary school in Altındağ, Keçiören and Mamak districtsof Ankara province and their teachers. In the content of this research, cursive writingevaluation form has been formed for the students. A survey sheet has been used forthe first class teachers from the observed schools. The frequency and percentages ofthe data from those evaluation forms of students and teachers has been taken and ithas been interpretted by the researcher.At the result of the research;1. The first class students? not being able to write the cursive letters and makemistakes in writing sllybes, their not being able to write the letters clear andlegible and their not being able to arrange the sizes of the letters have beendetermined.2. The first class students? not being able to divide the words correctly, their notbeing able to begin a new line, their not being able to fix the writing to thepage, their not being able to protect the inclination in the whole writing andtheir handwriritngs? not giving aesthetic appreciation has been determined.iv3. It has been observed thst the students? which had preschool education hasbeen generally more successful compared to the ones without preschooleducation, but in wiriting the letters properly, the students without preschooleducation has been more successful than the ones with the preschooleducation.4. In the reserach the speed of the first class students? in cursive writing hasbeen measured.5. The first class students? incorrect letters and the wrong combined letters incursive writing has been determined.The suggestions by the researcher based on the problems arised from theresults from the research have been given part.v
