The relations of fourth grade students' empathic skill levels with parents' attitude and self-esteem

Abstract (EN)
It is studied that the levels of empathic skill with sexuality, birth time, level of parents education, level of family income, parents attitudes and the relationship of self-respect of the fourth class in an elemantary education in this research.The model of the research is consist of 417 students that being educated in the fourth class of 3 official elemantary schools existed in the center of Ankara in the education year of 2006-2007.Personal Information Form, The Envanter of Empathy for Children (Bryant, 1982), The Envanter of Parental Attitude (Polat, 1986) and Coopersmith Envanter of Self-Esteem (Coopersmith, 1967) are used in the research.The gathered data are analysed by using SPSS packet program. The t-Test, Kruskall-Wallis H Test that the non-parametric reaction of one way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Mann-Whitney U Test and Pearson Correlation Coefficient Technique are used in the research.At the end of the research, it is seen that the girls empathic skills are higher than the boys A meaningful difference is not found between the birth time and empathy. The group which has the least point of empathy according to education of mothers are the students whose mothers are non-literate. The group which has the highest point of empathy are the students whose mothers are graduated from college or university. A meaningful difference is not found between the fathers education and the point of empathy. The group which has the least point of empathy according to income level are the students who perceive themselves as a member of lower income level; the group which has the highest point of empathy are the students who percieve themselves as a member of middle income level. When the relationship between the empathy and the parents attitudes is studied, it is found that there is a meaningful and negative relationship. When the relationship between the empathy and the self-respect is studied, it is found that there is a meaningful and positive relationship.
