Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to observe the association between the study habits and the self concept of the primary school students. Moreover, whether the study habits and self concepts of these students vary according to their gender, their class level or to the education levels, occupations and incomes of the parents are also observed. The relational scanning model among other scanning models is used in this research. The study group consists of 213 students (115 females and 98 males) who are from three schools which are in the Ankara?s provincial center and represent the upper, middle and low economical levels of the society. In the research, Piers Harris? The Scale of Children?s Self Concept (Öner, 2005), The Inventory of Study Habits (Uluğ, 1981) and The Form of Personal Information are used. The arithmetic average, t-test and analysis of variant are used as the statistical processes and for analyzing the data SPSS 16.0 program is used.According to the results of this research, an incoherent association (as 0,081) between the self concepts of the students of 6th, 7th and 8th classes and their efficient study habits is found. This correlation is thought to be too close to zero so it is interpreted as there is no relation between the students? self concepts and study habits. The students? self concept points show no meaningful discrepancy according to their class levels, genders and to their families? average incomes and their education levels. The female students? awareness level of their efficient study habits is a little higher than the male students?. It is observed that the awareness level of the students of 6th class is higher than the students of 7th and 8th classes. The efficient study habits of the students whose mothers are housewives are observed to be higher than the ones the mothers of whom are working. The results of the research are discussed in the frame of the relevant literature and proposals are presented.
