Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research was to examine the relationship between the academic success and the attitude towards the music lessons among the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at elementary level in State schools and private schools. This research was conducted on 432students, selected randomly according to their socio-economic status, who were attending the private schools and 12 State schools in Buca, Izmir. This research was carried out by using ` Müzik Dersi Tutum Ölçegi?. In data analysis; average, standard deviation, frequency, percentage, t-test, analysis of variance, and LSD tests were used. The results show that the attitude of the students in State elementary schools made more meaningful difference than the students in private schools. At elementary level; there is a meaningful difference between the gender of the students and their attitude towards the music lesson among the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students of State schools and private schools. In the selected group the scores of the female students were higher than the scores of the male students. At elementary level; (in both school types) there is no meaningful difference between the education level of the mothers? and the students? attitude towards the music lesson among the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students of state schools and private schools. At elementary level; (in both school types) there is no meaningful difference between the education level of the fathers? and the students? attitude towards the music lesson among the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students of state schools and private schools. xi At elementary level; (in both school types) there is a meaningful difference between whether any family member is involved in music and their attitude towards the music lesson among the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students of state schools and private schools. At elementary level; (in both school types) there is a meaningful difference between their attending any musical activities and the students? attitude towards the music lesson among the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students of state schools and private schools. At elementary level; (in both school types) there is a meaningful difference between playing any kind of instrument and the students? attitude towards the music lesson among the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students of state schools and private schools.
