Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this research is to define the secondary school learners? level in solving mathematical word problems which require actual answer and role of their personal comments in solving such problems. This study is applied on 300 randomly-selected students of grade six, seven and eight the in official primary schools of Ministry of National Education in Seyhan,Adana in 2007-2008 education year A problem test which requires an actual answer has been applied to those students. Two different forms have been prepared for the problem test which will get students solved. Form A prepared for 150 students and Form B prepared for 150 students have been delivered. After students solve the problem test, 20 students from each grade (totally 60) through those students have been chosen to inquire how they make comments on the problem situation and their thoughts while solving those problems. It is haven an interview about their problem solving with students.First analysis taken from the data collecting tool has shown that percentage for the success within those problems is in a low degree. At the end of this study, it is concluded that students have difficulties in making connection between mathematics and real life. Keywords: Problem Solving, Real-World Problems
