The attitude of the history teachers in secondary schools towards teaching war units

This research with its field work quality consists of four main chapters; introduction, methods, findings and interpratation and suggestions. The aim of this research is to foreground the attitude of history teachers, working at the 6th and 7th grade towards the teaching of wars in the history instruction. The following questions are tried to be answered in this research; 1. What is the attitude of history teachers towards the teaching of wars? 2. Is this attitude will be changed in accordance with a. their gender? b. the priorites of their services? The related literature are scanned at home and abroad. Under the light of the collected datas, the attitude scale is prepared. The research datas are collected by the application of this questionnaire to 96 history teachers, working in Ankara. The statistical operations show the validitiy and reliability of the questionnaire. The results of this research are as follows; 1. There is meaninful difference in the answers, given by the history teachers to the statement that the teaching wars will flourish the analytical thinking skills of the students in accordance with their gender. 2. There is meaninful difference in the answers, given by the history teachers to the statement that the wars are inevitable facts of history in accordance with the priority of their services. 3. There is meaninful difference in the answers, given by the history teachers to the statement that the wars should be taught certainly in accordance with with the priority of their services. Ill4. There is meaninful difference in the answers, given by the history teachers to the statement that the teaching wars to the students doesn not mean to make them enemy to other nations in accordance with their gender.
