A survey on the opinions and attitudes toward physical education course among the physical education teachers on high schools and students of these schools: Case of Kars

The purpose of this research, is to learn the expectations and manners of the public school teachers toward Physical Education Lessons they enter at the second level of the elementary schools. In this research 31 Physical Education teachers and 1007 students take place. These students and teachers are choosen from the city of Kars between the years 2011 ? 2012 working at the public schools connected to the Ministry of Education of this city. The samples of this research which are Physical Education teachers and students taken randomly from the 6?th, 7?th and 8?th classes are choosen from all schools in Kars city. (All people that take place in this research, %10 of the number of the students that have their education in that shcool are taken as samples for this research and for each school %10 of the students are girls and %10 are boys who are taken randomly. ) When research data is gathered there are used two different data gathering tools. For measuring the manner of students it is used the Manner Measurin Scale of Demirhan and Altay (2001) which has 12 positive and 12 negative matters which in total has 24 matters of the Physical Educational and Sports Manner Measuring Scale. To make it possibles to analyse the manners of teachers according to the matters that take place in questionnaire, grades and values are used to determine the mathematical means like; None: 1.00?1.74, Little: 1.75?2.49, Partly: 2.50?3.24 ve Completely: 3.25? 4.00. According to these values for each matter it is found the mathematical mean and it is analysed so that to find if the new Physical Educational Programme and its under scales of this programme is appropriate according to teachers. Teachers responses are evaluated according to this. The data obtained analysis, SPSS 15.0 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) package program was used. In this research it is found that gyms in schools in the centre of city are not sufficient, students are really interested in Physical Education Lessons, teachers have newly started work, teachers moslty see themselves sufficient in their fields for the work they do, classes of the Physical Education are not crowded, students want to take Physical Education Lessons in their future education, most of the teachers say that they can achicve their aims in their programmes during the school terms and the attendance of students is in the maximum level.
