Investigation of specially named rectangle information based on the relationship between sides and angles of the 1, 2 and 3rd grade teacher candidates of the Department of Primary Education Mathematics Teaching

Within the scope of this thesis, it is aimed to examine the quadrilateral awareness of primary school mathematics teacher candidates in terms of Van Hiele Thinking Levels, to determine what kind of classifications they make based on the relationships between the quadrilaterals and to compare them gradually between classes. In this study, the cross-section approach of the general survey model was used. The study group of the research consists of 132 Elementary Mathematics Education students studying at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades of Gaziantep University. As a data collection tool, an evaluation form consisting of 12 multiple-choice, 1 structured grid and 1 concept map question created by the researcher and expert was used. The findings obtained from the analysis of the data were gathered under 4 main headings: defining quadrilaterals, associating, grouping and creating a concept map. When the findings were examined, it was seen that the students were able to make standard representations of quadrilaterals, but they could not show the same performance for their special cases, and they could not establish the deltoid-rhombus relationship in creating concept maps. It is thought that the results obtained from the research will contribute to the studies to be done on the quadrilateral knowledge of mathematics teacher candidates and to determine the deficiencies in the field knowledge of the teachers in university education and to make an educational study accordingly.
