The comparisan of primary school (4. and 5. class) students attitudes of science lessons whith finding out level of the concepts in the unit çevremizi taniyalim

Guiding our children who are the insurance of our future to the subject that they are supposed to be successful is a better idea than expecting them to be successful in every field.Thus the interests of the students should be specified and they should be guided and educated in this field. With this respect this study aims at discovering primary school first stage fourth and fifth class students' attitudes to Science lessons and finding out their understanding of the concepts in the Unit "Çevremizi Tanıyalım". It also aims at discovering the size of the relationship between these two aspects. The subjects of this study are 450 (fourth and fifth class) students who are currently attending 5 primary schools at Gölbaşı, Ankara. This study has been conducted in the" spring tenxfof 2002-2003 academic year. In this study two devices, namely a concept knowledge test devised to find out the students' understanding of the concepts in the Unit "Çevremizi Tanıyalım" and an attitude scale to discover their attitudes towards Science lessons. The data gathered has been evaluated by using SPSS. While analysing the students' answers the relationship between their attitudes to the Science lesson and their level of concept understanding has been evaluated and also the results have been examined by taking the students' class levels and their sexes into consideration. The results reveal that the students who have high opinion of the science lesson and develop positive attitudes learn the concepts more easily and are more successful.Key Words : Concept, Misconception, Attitude, Science Success, Science
