ABSTRACT This research is planned and executed to determine the consuming behavior of primary school students living in different social-economical regions of Ankara province. The material of the research is obtained from 9 primary schools that are selected using random sampling and located in different social-economical regions of Ankara province. The 55.3 % of students under investigation are boys, and 44.7 % are girls. Although 87.3 % of the mothers are unemployed, 89.7 % of the fathers are employed. 70.3 % of the students have no education on consuming. Around half of the students (48.8 %) are not aware if any Consumer Protection Club exists in their school. 91.6 % of the students are receiving pocket money from their families, and 90.5 of them save up some of this money. 78.2 % of the students are thinking to spend the saved money to maintain a necessity that has been planned for a long time. Those who generally make plan before the shopping are 42.5 %, and 43.5 % are the ones who make plans sometimes. Nearly half of the students (45.6 %) occasionally obey to their plans. 70 % of the students try to analyze the market before actually shopping. 72.7 % of the student which make the analysis, stated that they are analyzing to check if the prices are proper to their budget. 45 % of the students are shopping with their mothers. Most of them want to shop clothes and foods together with their mothers, although they want to buy gifts, computer games, VCD-CD, and special necessities by themselves. 78.5 % of the students are claiming that their families are getting their opinions on the shopping. 52.8 % of the students under investigation are accepting their current knowledge is adequate for shopping. mAdditionally 3/4 of the students are claiming that the mark is important firstly for the clothing and then for the food. Very important number of the students (71.1 %) prefers the products with mark, and half of them (49.7 %) prefer them due to their high quality. Just higher than the half of the students (52.9 %) think that the mode is important. The 88.3 % of the students investigated so far, are watching the advertisements on the TV. 77.3 % of the students are affected from the prices of the goods when buying. Around 4/5 of them are buying the foods and drinks from the supermarket, the percentage of those who do not buy foods from outside is 53.5 %, and occasionally buy are 41.4 %. The amount of the students who buy foodstuff just due to the advertisements is 22.4 %. 70.8 % of the students are returning to give back a defected good. 34.1 % of the students under investigation are paying attention on the labels of the clothes, however, some of the students stating that they pay attention, can not identify the basic symbols. The ratio of the students that are reading the information on the packages is 65.9 %, and almost all of them (94.4 %) pay attention on the TSE mark, and only 28.3 % on the last date of consumption. 60.5 % of the students stated that they knew their rights as consumer, however, none of them was able to explain what these rights were. Almost half of the students (48.0 %) are have problems with the clothing goods, when 36.8 % with the foods. About half of these students (50.0 %) think that they should make no shopping from the shops selling faulty products. 63.4 % of the students stated that the consumers must be organized. 76.8 % of the students under investigation need consumer education and 41.5 % want it within some courses, 41.0 % via television, and 37.1 % as stand-alone course.
