Abstract (EN)

The objective of this research is to put forward the opinions and reactions of primary school teachers about the new curriculum that has been started to be applied in 1-5 grades, their practice and the problems they face in the practice period of this curriculum in classroom environments; and also their opinions about the previous curriculum. In addition, this research tries to find out whether there are differences among the teachers from the aspect of the faculties they graduated from and their seniority. The universe of the research was the primary school teachers working in schools in Beykoz and Ümraniye, the districts of Istanbul in 2005-2006 School year. The sample was 266 students who were chosen randomly among others in thirty schools. In the study, the survey technique was applied and questionnaires were used to gather information. Interviews were carried out to support the data. For the content validity, expert views were taken into consideration and Cronbach- Alpha Coefficient was calculated for its reliability. The Cronbach-Alpha Coefficient was 0.84 for Chapter I, 0.82 for chapter II, 0.89 for chapter III and 0.83 for chapter IV. In this study, following results were concluded; 1. The Primary School Teachers put forward that the best side of the curriculum is its authentic, enjoyable and useful nature away from the memorization technique. 2. The Primary School Teachers think that teachers directly provided for students with information in the old curriculum and as a result this information couldn?t be applied in real life. 3. Among the activities expressed by the new curriculum, the Primary School Teachers mostly apply the activity that requires guiding students to attain the information. 4. The biggest problem that the Primary School Teachers face in practice of the curriculum is insufficient number of libraries where students can go to. 5. The practice of the new curriculum by the Primary School Teachers doesn?t vary according to their seniority. 6. It has been found out that the frequency of the practice of the new curriculum is the same among the teachers who graduated from the same faculties.
