Abstract (EN)

226 ABSTRACT In the modern world art education curricula are supported with theoretical courses beside the applications. In this way, the integration of art courses to pedagogy has been realized. This approach is known as Discipline-Based Art Education (DBAE) in Turkey, in which the combination of art history, art criticism, aesthetics and art making have been realized. As the result of document reviewed, it comes out that current art education curriculum in Turkey and its commonly applications are far from this standards. The basic purpose of this research is to show contributions to instruction of graphic design subjects which are included in the primary schools' art education curriculum by practicing DBAE. The research has been implemented in experimental design which included pre-test post-test, and control group; and also as qualitative inqury in ecudation, interview, observation and investigation of document have been conducted. The population of research is Diyarbakır province. The sample is Şehit Baş Komiser Yılmaz Allahverdi primary school. In this research, it has been determined whether there are any significant differences between the control group to which the traditional method was applied and the experimental group to which the (DBAE) method was applied related to sixth grade student' achievements, their attitudes towards the lesson and retention of learning at the end of unit, called "Poster and Typograpy Design". After the implementation of pre-test, post-test and retention test, the significant differences for experimental group were observed. In conclusion, if the appropriate circumstances, adequate preservice training and inservice training for DBAE method are provided, art education in primary schools will be able to successful. Some suggestions releated to those results were submitted to the authorities. *$s^
