Determining the knowledge and the opinions abaut the transgenic products (GMO) of the teacers in primary school

This search, done and planed to determine the knowledge and the opinions about the transgenic products (GMO) of the teachers in primary schools, includes 196 primary schools teachers in İzmit a central district in Kocaeli, the survey method is used in this search. This search is done from 2006 to 2007.Date are collected by the questionnaires which consists of two parts. In the first part of the questionnaires teacher?s personal and Professional situations are determinined, the second part is prepaned to determine the teachers knowladge and opinions abaut trangenic products. obtained knowladge are avaluated by using frequency, percentage, t-test and one way anova test statistical analysis methods.By the way of obtained knowladge, 62.7 % of teachers joined this search are class teachers and 37.8 % of teachers are branch teachers. It?s deceted that the 49.5 % of the participarts have worked for five years or less in their jobs, 65.4 % of them are married and 51.4 % have got children.Teachers of 71.4 % have defined the expansion of the term, GMO correctly. The rate of people, who thinks that the transgenic products occurs by the results of biotechonogical searchs, is 68.9 % and 48.5 % of them think that transgenic products and natural products dont have the same features, 46.4 % think that the famine of the word can be prevented and 55.1 % think that the transgenic products usage is harmful for human.Within the collected datas branch, graduated high school, age marital status and having children variations evaluated according to given answers if there has been any meaningful difference between them. Class teachers gave more positive answers than the branch teachers, the other variations haven?t been importantly affect upon any difference on the answers.According to the search results, ıt?s understood that the knowledge with the transgenic products of the teachers in primary schools, is insufficient, because they haven?t got the knowladge depends on the scientific basics, they behave consciously; Turkish Ministry of Education and related foundations should educate the teachers, who form the community, abaut biotechnology and their products by marking cooperation.Key Word: Genetically Modified Organisms, GMO, Transgenic, Teacher, Knowledge, Opinion
