The Effect of using musical reading cards on the elemantary reading education (the sample of Yahya Çavuş Elemantary School District of Yenimahalle, Ankara)

The aim of this research is to understand whether it is possible to achieve the specified targets more effectively in the musically aided elemantary reading education by making use of the specific functions of music and the language-music relation. The effect of musical reading cards on the elemantary education is inspected in the reasearch. With this purpose, in the first semester of 2001 -2002 educational year, at the Yahya Cavus Elementary School located in the district of Yenimahalle in the province of Ankara, in addition to the conventional education, education with the musical reading carts, with the control grups, only the conventional reading education is applied. For each of the sentence, word, syllable and free reading stages of the elemantray reading education, four different observations are made. In the statistical analyses related to determining whether it is more effective to use musical slips in addition to conventional reading education, first "Kolmogorov-Smirnov test" is used to specify whether the distribution of the groups is normal and "Mann-Whitey" and "t test" is used according to the status of the group distribution. In addition toIV this, for some variables which may have an effect on the experimental application, variance analysis (ANOVA) is used. As a result, it is found that education with the musical reading slips than, is more effective. The variables that are considered to have an effect on the experimental application (education of parents, pre-school education, age in months) is observed to have an influence on the achievements of intermedate stages and the general success at the final stage of the elemantary reading education.
