Levels of parent involvement in elementary schools and the most common types of parent involvement preferred by parents

This research was conducted in order to determine the levels of parent involvement in schooling and the most common types of parent involvement preferred by parents.Population of the research consists of the parents whose children attend private and state primary schools in Kadıköy, Üsküdar and Ümraniye in İstanbul. The sample of the research consists of 740 parents whose children attend 3 private and 3 state schools in the provinces named above.Data was gathered by Parent Involvement Scale which was developed by the researcher.The data gathered was analyzed by using SPSS. According to the features of the data frequency and percentage distributions, One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Independent Samples t test was applied.Here are some fundamental results of the research:Parents? involvement level in their children?s education is high. Parents commonly prefer Parenting, Communicating and Learning at Home to other types of parent involvement. Also, level of parent involvement decreases as the grade of the children increases. Parents who graduated from university have a higher level of parent involvement than parents who graduated from primary school. Parents who have one child have a higher level of parent involvement than parents who have more than one child. Young parents have a higher level of parent involvement than middle-aged parents. Mothers have a higher level of parent involvement than fathers.
