Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the conflicts encountered in primary education schools and the solution strategies that school administrators apply. Search minutely method was used for the research. The survey has been made among the school administrators who are in charge of 103 primary education schools located in Istanbul districts named Kadıköy, Kartal, Maltepe, Pendik and Tuzla. The data obtained from 264 pieces correct filled up survey forms were transfered to SPSS programme. Analyses and comments have been made on result using freguency, percentage, and arithmetic average techniques. Functional conflicts happen sometimes but dysfunctional conflicts happen usually in terms of realizing educational targets. Latent conflicts and felt conflicts were encountered sometimes, but perceived conflicts and manifest conflict was not encountered in terms of conflict forms. Vertical conflicts were encountered usually, horizontal conflicts were encountered occasionally, but line-staff conflict and social conflicts were not encountered in terms of conflict circumference. Interpersonal and intragroup conflicts were encountered usually, conflicts between members of group and between organizations were encountered sometimes, but intrapersonel conflict were never encountered. In terms of conflict sides, role conflict was encountered usually, but institutionalized and goal conflicts occasionally among other conflict types. School administrators always apply some strategies such as increasing sources, compromise, changing attitudes, improve communication, integration and superordinate goals to solve problems encountered in the schools. Smoothing and dominating behaviours are used usually. Third party peacemaking, ignorance, leaving to boss decision, changing structural parameters, voting, discussion, avoidance strategies are applied sometimes. To determine common enemy, oblinging, withdrawal, political instruments, keeping busy and replacement persons strategies are not used.
