The contribution of the school parent organisations to the management of the schools

The purpose of this study is to define the level of contribution of the school parent organisations to the management of the schools, discuss the issues related with the matter and bring proposals as to what improvement can be done. For this reason, suggestions and comments of the school managers, teachers and the school parent organisation members have been received. Sampling of this study has been based on 840 individuals (of which 548 are school managers and teachers, 292 are school parent organisation members) who have taken duty in the primary schools in the schooling period of 2003 - 2004. Data were collected by questionarie. Received data have been analysed with statistics of frequency, percentage, average and t-test. At the end of the analysis, it was found out that school manager-teacher and school parent organisation have different understanding on the contribution of the parent organisations to the school management. It was observed that while school manager and teachers think that the level of the cooperation of the parent organization members is not sufficient, according to the school parent organisation members they are sufficient at high rates. Another finding was that the school parent organisation members show more interest to cooperate with the school management on the matters directly related with the students under their responsibility, they show very little concern to the issues related with community and environment. It was determined that in order for the school parent organisation members to work more effectively and contribute to the school management, the school management primarily should take remedies to have functionality for the school parent organisation members and school parent organisations should work to strengten their status. It is known by researchers that the family has important role on the acedemical success of the student as well as his social-emotional development. The quality of the relations between the school and family has an important influence on the success of the students. School parent organisation has taken an important duty to provide integration by strengthening the relations between the family and school. To have this duty successfully implemented, a new dynamism should be brougth to the school parent organisation system. m
